The North Face Explores Innovative Method for Int'l Giving

SAN LEANDRO, CA (May 26, 2004) - The North Face announced today that it has signed an agreement with GlobalGiving to fund and promote community-based development projects overseas. The North Face sponsors as many as five expeditions a year, sending world class athletes to remote international destinations. Through GlobalGiving, The North Face will be able to identify and fund social and economic development projects in the regions where these expeditions take place.

Founded by former World Bank executives, GlobalGiving is the emerging marketplace for international aid. It directly connects social entrepreneurs in the developing world with individuals and institutions that have an interest in funding social and economic development projects.

The North Face joins HP and VISA in its committment to corporate social responsibility overseas.

"GlobalGiving provides an exciting new opportunity that streamlines international aid," said Letitia Ferrier, Strategic Marketing Manager at The North Face. "Through this partnership, The North Face funding will go directly to high-impact development projects overseas. This allows us to directly give back to the communities and regions where we send our athletes to explore."

Afghan Health Center Completed; Serves 2,500 a Month

With the help of our generous donors, Creating Hope International (CHI) and project partner the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) have completed the construction of a Health clinic in Mir Bacha Kot, Afghanistan through our Women's Learning Center project. The health clinic is now serving over 2,500 women and children per month. The clinic focuses especially on women's and children's health because Afghanistan has one of the world's highest maternal and child mortality rates. The clinic provides vaccinations, pre-natal visits and baby delivery services. Last week, twins were successfully delivered at the clinic. Mom and babies are doing well

During the clinic's opening ceremony, some of CHI/AIL's pre-school students performed a role play of a mother and baby visiting the doctor.

Afghanistan has some of the world's highest maternal and child mortality rates.

One community member in Mir Bacha Kot, said, "We are very happy that we have AIL with us because AIL provides the afflicted people of this village with education and health services...The biggest help and resource for the people, especially women, of this village is the establishment of the clinic, where there was not any clinic. Thus, we had difficulty traveling to cities for check ups. The people of this village are thankful to AIL for its services."
